Here are six things you should think about when choosing a retirement community.

1. Location. One important thing is where the community will be located. Are you sick of winter? Then maybe you want to relocate down south. However, if you want to stay near your

family to be with the grandkids then you might have to look at communities near where you live now. In addition to the geographical location, you’ll want to consider whether you envision yourself living in the city or country setting and choose the community accordingly.

I had a boss once who was always moving around in the office and active. He never sat in one place for very long. He would find any excuse to get up. If someone came in, he would get up and greet them. If the phone rang, he would get up and go to another room to talk. If he needed a file, yep the file drawer was a walk away. Right now retirement communities are “hot.”

When there is a lot of interest in a subject, trying to predict the trends becomes important also. No one knows exactly what will happen in the future, however. It is fun to make predictions. Predictions should be more than wild guesses or pure intuition. Real estate trends can be based on demographics and money flow or something as simple as watching the traffic flow on my website about retirement communities for over age 55.

My website has categories for the areas of the United States. How much traffic flows to those states tells me something. The traffic can, in turn, be affected by something like

the weather or a news story, so it changes minutely and temporarily. But over time, certain trends are strong. For instance, the state that consistently gets the most traffic is Florida. This tells me that a lot of people are interested in retiring to Florida and that is a consistent trend that has not changed over many years. It appears right now that this will continue to be so, although it could change at any time.

Bend Oregon is one of the best places to retire in the United States. It has everything a retired person could want. The recreational opportunities are abundant; everything from mountain biking, hiking, rafting, golfing, fishing, rock climbing, camping, downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling, general sightseeing and much more.

The weather is perfect. Moderate days and cool nights characterize Bend s year-round climate.
